Design and Placement of the Corporate Communication Function
One of the first problems in designing a corporate communication department is whether to keep all communications focused by centralizing the activity under one senior officer at a corporation's head quarters or to decentralize activities and allow individual business units to decide how best to handle communications. The more centralized function provides a much easier way for companies to gain consistency and control for all communication activities at the top of the organization. The decentralized function, however, gives individual business units an opportunity to adapt the function to their own needs rather than to the needs of the organization as a whole.
